A national relay raising awareness of the climate emergency has called in at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ of Worcester on its journey through the City.
Students and staff taking on the baton in the Running Out of Time Relay event
The Running Out of Time Climate Relay is travelling the length of Great Britain over the summer with a baton passed between runners, walkers, wheelers and cyclists. Inside the baton is a message calling for action to cut emissions, restore nature and support those hardest hit by climate change.
The baton arrived at the ¹û¶³´«Ã½’s Severn ¹û¶³´«Ã½ where it was handed over to ¹û¶³´«Ã½ students by schoolchildren. The ¹û¶³´«Ã½’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Sally Moyle, and Lord Victor Adebowale, Chair of the NHS Confederation, spoke to those assembled.
The ¹û¶³´«Ã½’s Severn ¹û¶³´«Ã½ is home to one the Country’s largest electric vehicle charging car parks and the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ has invested heavily in solar panels and green spaces to improve biodiversity across its campuses.
The ¹û¶³´«Ã½ is also working with organisations across the City on a number of projects including tackling air quality, the introduction of an underground heat network connecting buildings using energy from the River Severn to provide heating and hot water, along with the introduction of electric bike schemes and improved walking and cycling routes.
Upon leaving the ¹û¶³´«Ã½, the baton passed through the City following the Wild About Worcester Way.
