Emlyn Wilcox
Emlyn Wilcox is now working towards his ambition of a career in the film industry.
Having initially come to the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ through Clearing, Emlyn has graduated with First Class Honours in Film Production.
“Coming to university through Clearing, I never thought that in three years’ time, I would be graduating with a First,” he said. “I am proud of the time and effort that I have put into my work whilst at university and I am glad that this has been recognised and rewarded.”
Long-term Emlyn would like to work in the film industry, more specifically in set and prop construction as that is what interests him most. He said: “My short-term goal is to gain as much experience in set and prop construction as I can whilst working my current job. I will do this by volunteering at local theatres and helping to create sets and props for shows.”
Emlyn is currently working in the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ of Worcester’s Communications and Participation team. He is going out to local schools and colleges, representing the ¹û¶³´«Ã½, to encourage students to think about higher education. As part of this role, he will also gain experience in different areas, including marketing, press, digital and events.
Emlyn looked at a wide range of universities, but chose Worcester for the size of the campus and City. “I wanted to study somewhere that had a sense of community and Worcester definitely has that,” he said. “As for the City, I wanted to go to university in a city, but a city where everything felt close by but also had everything you would need from a bigger city.”
When the pandemic struck and lockdowns were imposed, Emlyn said it was an interesting time to be studying. “It was my final year and we had to create a physical piece of work. But at the time, there were restrictions in place to prevent households from mixing, which meant no filming unless it was over a video call. My lecturers were very supportive to me during this time, encouraging weekly video calls to see my progress and how I was getting on. They also made it clear to me that they were only an email away, so if I had any worries or concerns just to email them.”
